Born on 2nd November 1973, in New Delhi,India with a first-class degree in fine arts from the prestigious College of Arts, I am a self-taught photographer. Street photography is a passion that I live like a discipline. Although I started shooting as a wildlife photographer for two years, I switched on to street in 2001. It instantly became my passion and my first nature. To me, street photography is a journey and I travel every day, I am learning and unlearning every day, I thrive to improve every day.
Life in general, which is so unexpected, I try to be as honest through my lens as I can.
I try to synthesize between human elements and the environment & my main focus is how to make ordinary moments look extraordinary. I think every one of us should get involved with photography because it gives more than one can ever imagine.
In 2011, APF(artphotofeature.com) magazine was formed, APF is born from an education imperative, it’s an evolving magazine where we recognize fresh talent. The intent is to provide a platform for emerging photographers, artists, and designers to showcase their works, works that are not necessarily commercial, to create opportunities and open new doors. The subjects explored are broad, in terms of concepts, styles, and techniques. I want to explore the limits and possibilities.
I’m a Leica Ambassador, first-ever Indian in the history of Leica, and conducting workshops as a Leica Mentor in Leica Akademie, with various publications on the Leica blog. Before Leica I was an official Fuji X photographer, member of APF collective & thestreetcollective. Author of the successful book “The Serendipity”.
Currently, I am doing workshops globally, including the Miami street photography festival, the Miami street photography festival, the Italian street photography festival, San Francisco street photography festival, the London street photography festival, Xposure photography festival Sharjah, SIPA and India photo festival. I am also on the leading judging panel of all these festivals.
I have been awarded twice in a row at the Xposure photo festival by His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi for excellence. I’ve also been giving lectures and conducting workshops in leading colleges of India for the past 12 years.
My work and stories have been published in various prestigious magazines, newspapers & blogs all over the world including National Geographic, NYT, The Guardian, UK. I’ve been a part of various collective exhibitions in London, New York, Miami, Vietnam, Tel Aviv & India.

For him street photography is one of the purest forms of photography. He says, “It is also one of the most difficult forms of photography. It’s difficult because we usually don’t have much control over the environment, well at least as much as we might like.”

Growing Up with Art
Art was an integral part of his growing up years. A young Satyajit was always fascinated to express visually. A lone SLR at home nurtured his desire to experiment and explore. With his school providing the platform to live his passion, the acknowledgement he received was an early motivation to seal his drive further. Things gained momentum when his father implored him to look beyond his lens and learn the all-round art of etching them into print. Photography became integral to Satyajit and his life’s philosophy.
Growing up in an environment engulfed with art and aesthetics, he channeled every opportunity to work with artists bringing his philosophy to dance photography resulting in an output which stood apart from the established norm.
It was at this juncture Satyajit decided to make photography the focal point of his career. He moved to Mumbai and joined as an apprentice under the Master photographer Iqbal Mohamed. That further shaped him as a photographer
Evolving with Art
Satyajit finds immense satisfaction in being the instrument between the moment and the audience. As he often states ‘Moments are transformative, extremely personal at the same time extremely universal’. This confluence of aesthetic outlook, spiritual moorings and grounding in art is the bedrock of the photo artist in him.
He believes that every perspective on art and an artist’s journey enhances one’s own self discovery. This philosophy reflects in his contemporary work which includes Heavenly bodies, Hands of Work, Another Day, where the subject in his photographs are in their ‘as is’ state.
Satyajit is open to projects that revolve around
- Outdoor based discovery sessions & Destination photography workshops
- One to One Mentoring Sessions
- Photo Story Boarding for Corporates
- Visualize and design spaces based on concepts.
- Exhibits in Art festivals and gallery showcases

He has worked as a professional editorial photographer in Delhi for 20 years and has been contributing to Forbes India since 2008. “After so many years of shooting auto-focus cameras and editorial assignments,” Verma explains, “transitioning to a fully manual camera and landscape photography has forced me to slow down, get in sync with nature, and find my composure as a photographer and as a witness to the light that is constantly changing the landscape.”
Verma’s eye and instinct for landscapes originates from his vast desert homeland in Bikaner, Rajasthan, and matured under the mentorship of the late, revered photographer Rakesh Sahai. He deepened his commitment to his art and trade with the unrivaled German camera, the Leica M. Verma’s his first solo show was hosted by the Leica Store New Delhi in August 2018.
His second solo show, Light and Lines, was a collaboration with U.S.-based writer Melissa Alipalo in January 2020. When Verma is not shooting for editorial clients, he is working with Alipalo on building The Watersmeet, a platform to promote their joint work.
